Description: Developing phonemic awareness is an important part of building a strong reader. In this deck, students will change 1 sound in a word and substitute it with another letter to build a new word. Students will be changing the middle/medial sound in the word. Students will listen to the audio directions to change 1 sound in a word to make the new word. For example, students will change 1 sound in map and make it say mop. In order to do this, students will drag the letter needed to build the new word. This would be a great game to play whole group on an interactive board. The class can practice substituting different vowels in the medial place to see what word they built. The teacher can ask if I change the U in fun to an A what would the word be? Students will love the MAGIC of changing 1 sound to make a new word!
