Description: This CVC spelling deck is designed to build phonics and spelling skills for older students or adults. It contains 35 Drag and Spell cards with all five short vowels. Real pictures are used so that the activity doesn't feel too babyish for older students or adults. This activity mimics the magnetic tiles used in many Orton-Gillingham or other structured literacy programs, and it's a great way to build your students' phonics knowledge and introduce them to spelling words with these short vowel sounds. Using Elkonin boxes and letter tiles with one sound per letter also builds phonemic awareness and facilitates orthographic mapping! How it Works: Students see a picture and hear the word pronounced. Then they drag letter tiles into boxes to spell the word. Good to Know: • There are 35 cards in this deck, 5 for each of the five short vowel sounds. • All the words contain closed syllables with short vowel sounds and follow a CVC pattern, which means there are no blends or digraphs. • Audio is provided for all instructions and for every word, so students can click to hear the word pronounced if they aren't sure what the picture is.
