Description: Develop phonemic awareness and spelling skills with this fun word chain deck! This set of word chains (or word ladders) focuses on the CK or K spelling choice. Students will get a ton of practice spelling words ending in CK or K and reinforce their understanding of this spelling rule. If your students are struggling to master the CK vs. K generalization, they need this deck! How it Works: • Students see a picture and hear a word pronounced, and then they must spell the word. • Below is another picture of a word that changes by ONE SOUND, not necessarily by one letter. Students again listen to the word and then spell it. • Each card has three words in the "chain". (For example: back -> bake -> bike) Good to Know: • This deck has 36 cards, each with three words to be spelled. • Syllable types include closed (short vowels), R-Controlled and Silent E. So in addition to choosing between CK and K, students also must deal with vowel changes.
