It’s extra fun in March but is a workhorse all year long. “Don’t say green!” is a giant vocabulary building deck, packed with 96 content cards, distributed among the following skills: • Labeling categories • Labeling function • Labeling attributes • Identifying Members of a category • Category sorting • Category sorting with a combined feature • Defining by category and feature • Open sorts There are at least 10 cards in each category and most activities are self-correcting. Kids learn to sort by color first and some older students need encouragement to think flexibly and classify by something other than color. When every item is green, but also alike by category, function, or attribute, it helps students learn to find relationships that are NOT color related.
