Description: Turn taking skills are great social skills activities to teach when targeting Maintaining a topic of conversation. I like to teach paraphrasing as a means to develop topic maintenance and conversation skills. Do you have students that are awkward in conversation? Do they have trouble going back and forth in a conversation? It could be because they are not interested or do not know a lot about the topic being addressed. This is a quick trick I've used with my shy students. I have the students paraphrase for two reasons- first it allows them time to process what they heard, secondly it allows them time to formulate a question and provides Topic maintenance practice. Please search for the FREE Printie with the same title ( Boring topics and Paraphrasing PRINTIE ) Your Students will receive 40 Digital cards (33 instructional cards with 18 open Ended Fill in cards as well as 17 Different scenarios which will allow your student to practice this skill in a variety of situations. ) Each fill in slide takes 5-10 minutes to complete. It does require a certain level of inferential thinking skills and it's not recommended for students with moderate to severe cognitive disorders or limited syntax. However it is suitable for a student with typical language or with mild cognitive delays. The open - ended, fill in the blank format can be assigned to a student to work on independently but I feel it is best used in a small group setting where you can work collaboratively.
