Description: This resource includes probes for informally assessing how a child uses and understands passive voice. It can be used after a formal assessment indicates language needs, to collect data to set goals, and/or to monitor progress. The resource includes a main expressive probe (12 questions) to quickly assess a child’s skills, additional examples to use flexibly, and a separate comprehension probe. The resource also includes some information about passive voice for SLPs, including suggestions for eliciting passive voice in structured tasks. Each probe offers two suggested prompts to elicit a target sentence. ‘Elicitation’ prompts elicit passive voice without an initial model from the clinician. ‘Repetition’ prompts elicit passive voice through providing initial models similar to target forms. The probes are divided into the following sections: Passives with inanimate objects Passives with animate objects Passives with inanimate subjects Short passives, progressive vs. adjectival Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions at info@liftlanguageandliteracy.com.
