Description: Are you looking for interesting and engaging activities for Hispanic Heritage Month that will teach your students about the month and the cultures it celebrates as well as how some famous Hispanic American have influenced history? If so, this scavenger hunt and coordinating banner or bulletin board activity can help. While completing the hunt, students will learn why the celebration of Hispanic Americans begins in the middle of a month, how many Americans have a Hispanic or Latino heritage, why it is a month-long celebration, what Dia de la Raza is, and more. To complete the hunt, students answer 12 multiple-choice questions. First, they read a question and its possible answers. Then they read information that will help them answer it. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next question. If their answer is incorrect, they are redirected to the passage again to find the correct answer. The final card in the deck challenges students to write 3 interesting things they learned from the hunt. Then extend student learning by having them make a display for you classroom or hallway (banner or bulletin board). Each piece of the banner/bulletin board is about a specific Hispanic American. To make the display, students list the individual's birth and death dates, their heritage, and some of their accomplishments. Then they color the person's name and picture, cut it out, and display it.
