Description: Do your students often confuse c and k when spelling words that begin with the sound /k/? This Orton Gillingham inspired bundle targets this skill in two steps. First, the Spelling Extensions Rabbits in the Garden Activity allows students to practice the target skill of choosing c or k without sounding out the remainder to the word. Students listen to the audio and apply the strategy to choose c or k. Second, the Spelling Essentials activity provides a distraction-free design to evaluate mastery of the skill. Students, listen to the audio on each card and spell the word using the strategy. Before use, Teachers should explain the strategy for choosing c or k: 1. When a word starts with /k/, try "c" first. 2. Then if the "c" is followed by e, i, or y change the "c" to a "k". This strategy allows students to spell most words starting with /k/ successfully. Exceptions can be addressed separately.
