Description: Help students practice answering yes/no questions and identifying the emotions happy and sad with these engaging dog-themed activities. This resource includes 2 decks that provide a progression from structured practice to a more challenging mixed format. Deck 1 – Happy & Sad: Separate Practice Students practice each emotion separately. One section asks, “Does this dog look happy?”and the other asks, “Does this dog look sad?” This format provides repeated practice with one emotion at a time. Deck 2 – Happy & Sad: Mixed Practice Happy and sad questions are mixed throughout the deck. Students must attend to each question and determine whether the dog appears happy or sad, increasing the difficulty and reducing the predictability of the task. Students can answer each question verbally, on their AAC, selecting yes or no on the screen or a combination. The activities can be used sequentially, beginning with the separate happy and sad practice before progressing to the mixed deck, or each deck can be used independently based on the student’s needs. Responses can be as simple or as detailed as appropriate for the student, such as: "Yes" "Yes happy" "Yes dog happy" This resource supports yes/no questions, emotion identification, happy/sad discrimination, expressive communication, AAC use, and receptive language.
