Description: Story Problems: Identify Whole or Part / DECKS 1 & 2 In both decks, Mr. Moose teaches a lesson on identifying whether a story problem reveals a TOTAL & a PART (& we need to find the other PART) OR gives us 2 PARTS (& we need to find the TOTAL ). Mr. Moose shows students what to do in both scenarios. He demonstrates & makes connections to the number bond. These decks only focus on adding & subtracting STRATEGIES when given 2 numbers and NOT solving. This is scaffolded to teach an important thinking skill in isolation. Number bonds are illustrated in the form of a hat (total) and 2 mittens (parts). Students put a hat & one mitten OR 2 mittens on a snowman to show what they KNOW from the story. A gif is added to each page just for fun. BOTH DECKS HAVE DIFFERENT SETS OF STORIES! Color coding throughout decks enhance comprehension, Audio reads lesson on first 3 slides. Remaining slides have audio for directions and story problems. DECK 3: Word Problem Strategies: Do You Add or Subtract? Mr. Moose teaches how to use visualizing & gestures as strategies on slides 1-3. Slides 4 & 5 provide a gradual release method, guiding students through the process. Students are independent for slides 6 and on. Focus is on the STRATEGY and WHICH OPERATION TO USE, NOT solving for an answer. Students visualize & choose whether they should add or subtract. When correct, a Christmas Gif is found! Lessons, directions and word problems all have audio/sound.
