Description: This social-emotional learning activity is a tool to assist children and adolescents struggling with problem solving and social-emotional situations. It supports the recognition that the words and actions used may contribute to the negative consequences of behavior. Inferencing and perspective-taking are also targeted. This can be helpful for children and adolescents with autism, executive function deficits, language disorders, ADD/ADHD, etc. Carefully lead students through the problem-solving exercises with 12 negative scenarios. 16 emotions picture references are provided (pleased, relieved, appreciated, calm, confident, surprised, joy, hopeful, comfortable, indifferent, boredom, anger, disappointed, sadness, anxious, fear). Question prompts are provided within the exercises to help guide and facilitate a mediated learning experience. Conjunctions are also provided for older children to sequence and verbalize their problem-solving into complex sentence forms. *A pdf printable copy of the Boom deck is also provided to allow for visual reference while completing the deck if needed. Think bubbles and speech bubbles are included in the pdf as an added component for further learning exercises or enrichment opportunities using the problem-solving scenarios. This resource is geared for upper elementary through high school students.
