While completing the Thanksgiving hunt students will learn when the first Thanksgiving feast took place, what foods they served at the first feast, why Thanksgiving became a national holiday, and more. Then, in the Pilgrims hunt students will learn why they are called Pilgrims, how their original plan to come to America changed, why they got along so well with the Native Americans, and more. Finally, in the Mayflower hunt students will learn why the ship was crowded, how the ship got its name, how its design made it a good ship to travel in, but may have also made their trip to America longer than planned, and more. In each hunt students are presented 16-17 multiple-choice questions. After they read a question and possible answers they read the information that will help them answer the question. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next question. If their answer is incorrect, they can review the information again to find the answer. At the end of each hunt, the students write 3 interesting they learned from the hunt. These hunts can be used as Thanksgiving activities, to supplement a study of the colonization of America, to enhance the understanding of a story, or practice for reading informational text
