Description: Crack the Code is a morphology-based reading intervention designed to help struggling readers become more confident and independent when decoding unfamiliar words. Rather than relying on memorization, students learn to recognize and use meaningful word parts to break apart words, determine meaning, and build vocabulary. The series uses explicit instruction, guided practice, and independent application in short, manageable lessons. New word parts are introduced systematically while previously taught skills are intentionally spiraled throughout later lessons to provide cumulative review and strengthen retention. Crack the Code is designed especially for students who need additional support with decoding and word analysis while providing age-respectful practice appropriate for upper elementary and middle school learners. This five-day instructional sequence introduces new word parts while incorporating cumulative review of previously taught prefixes and suffixes. Through explicit instruction, guided practice, independent application, and assessment, students strengthen their morphology skills while continuously reinforcing prior learning.
