The Stroop effect was developed in 1935 by John Ridley Stroop It’s been used in psychology to learn how the mind works. More importantly, it shows how humans are hard-wired to use speech by proving that people label images by reading the word rather than paying attention to the color. I use this deck as a rewarding activity after a lesson. My students love it and race each other to see who can complete it quicker. In the process, I’m teaching them to slow down their brain and think before blurting! I sell this game in two versions, A receptive version where students are asked to choose from a choice of words, and an expensive version, where students are asked to provide the right color. In this activity, I am combining the two for a truly engaging experience. You will see some students do better in one than the other. I hope you enjoy it!
