Description: Your students will practice a variety of close reading and reading comprehension skills with these self-checking Boom cards. Each card features a short, engaging passage along with 2-3 text-dependent questions. This differentiation bundle includes 2 identical decks (Close Reading Comprehension Set 1 (Cards 1-20), one with and one without audio support. All of the odd-numbered PODs are informational text (nonfiction) while the even ones are all fictional texts. There are two or three questions for each passage. Most of the questions are multiple-choice, but there are a few short answer, and drag and drop questions as well. At least one question (usually the first one) is a vocabulary or comprehension question while the other question(s) focuses on some aspects of close reading such as inference, POV, main idea, summarizing, author’s purpose, text structure, fact and opinion, genre, figurative language, etc. Some cards also require students to underline relevant parts of the passage using the DRAW tool. Please note that this part of the card is not self-checking. You can check the cards to see what they underlined if you want, but it is included mostly to support learning. The questions themselves are all self-checking and every time the student is asked to underline it is direct support of a self-checking question. Please also note that all the cards are set to allow students to use the DRAW tool, so they can use it to annotate the text, even when not required.
