Description: Learning figurative language can really make you feel like a FISH OUT OF WATER! Idioms can be especially troublesome because these expressions vary from place to place and cannot be taken literally. Teaching students to examine these phrases in context can help them determine the meanings independently while reading or having conversations. This bundle of 130 interactive, self-checking cards provides great practice for determining the meaning of idioms by utilizing context clues. By using this resource, your students will become familiar with 100 different idioms! *In the mixed review set, students are given a short definition and they must identify which idiom has that meaning. (Idioms are NOT used in context in this set.)This deck is wonderful for pre-assessment or as a cumulative review! L.4.5.b Recognize and explain the meaning of common idioms, adages, and proverbs. *In the four practice sets, students are asked to read a sentence, determine the meaning of the idiom, and choose the correct response. If you and your students enjoy using this resource, please check out my BOOM store for other figurative language, vocabulary, and ELA resources!
