Description: Are your students unsure about whether to use CK or K for words that end in the sound /k/ - like MILK, TRUCK, ASK, and SNACK? ? This Orton Gillingham inspired bundle targets this skill in two steps. -First, in the the Spelling Extensions Orton Gillingham inspired Milk Truck Game, students practice choosing K or CK for the final /k/ sound. The game asks students to spell words that end in both k or ck, Students must choose whether to use ck or k on each play card for the target word. Students listen to the audio on each play card, then move the correct phonograms & milk cans into the truck. Watch out! As the milk cans are moved some mischievous barnyard critters may be revealed! -Second, the Spelling Essentials activity provides a distraction-free design to evaluate mastery of the skill. Students, listen to the audio on each card and spell the word using individual letters. The vowels and consonants are colored differently to help students recognize spelling patterns. Sets includes 82 BOOM ™ cards total - 80 play cards - 2 instruction/example card Suggested Teaching: Teachers should teach students the strategy that allows them to spell most words that end in /k/ correctly. Strategy for Words with Final /k/: 1. Does the word end in the sound /k/? 2. Is the phonogram immediately before the /k/ a short vowel? If the answer is YES to both of these questions, use "CK", otherwise use "K" for the final /k/.
