Description: 2nd Grade Math Unit 4: Addition Strategies is the fourth unit of my twelve Second Grade Math Boom Card series. This unit is packed with nine games that were made to engage young learners. This unit was designed for second grade, but you can easily adapt it to your lessons to review the skills with third graders and to challenge high level first graders. Students will use the method of adding numbers by lining up the numbers with the same place values in the same columns. There is no carrying in this deck. (2.NBT.B.5) Students will decompose the numbers into tens and ones as an addition strategy. (2.NBT.B.5, 2.NBT.B.9) Students will use the number line as an addition strategy. (2.MD.B.6) Students will identify equal values by regrouping tens and ones. (2.NBT.B.5, 2.NBT.B.9) Students will use the method of adding numbers vertically- lining up the numbers with the same place values in the same columns. Students will practice carrying a ten to add numbers within 100. (2.NBT.B.5) Students will solve real life word problems that require double digit addition. (2.OA.A.1) Students will use base ten blocks to solve double digit addition problems. They will practice adding vertically and carrying ten. (2.NBT.B.5, 2.NBT.B.9) Students will practice double digit addition using decomposition strategy.
