About me:
I am the creator of The Color-Coded Chef cooking kit, and this work grows directly from my journey as a mom raising a child with IDD and a rare genetic disorder. I wanted my son to build independence, confidence, and real-life skills — and the kitchen became the perfect place to start. Cooking connects to daily living, problem-solving, communication, and the joy of creating something for yourself and others.

What began as a tool for my family has now grown into a resource helping individuals everywhere. The Color-Coded Chef makes cooking approachable by removing barriers such as fractions, complex steps, and overwhelming directions. With visual support, color-coded tools, and step-by-step recipes, learners of all abilities can participate successfully. Although the disability community inspired the kit, it supports everyone — families, classrooms, adult programs, job-training environments, and community settings.

Ready to bring more real-world learning into the classroom? The Color-Coded Chef goes beyond cooking. Students practice healthy eating habits, sequencing, responsibility, teamwork, and work skills tied to the hospitality industry. Teachers can easily connect activities to IEP goals, transition planning, and career readiness. It’s not just about making food — it’s about opening doors to independence and opportunity.

I’m honored to collaborate with Special Education teacher Deanna Heuring, who brings over 15 years of expertise in transition and vocational instruction. She currently teaches inside an international corporation, helping students learn how to succeed in real workplaces. Deanna has helped refine our materials, so they truly meet the needs of teachers, families, and adult service agencies. Together, we’re building tools that empower, encourage, and create pathways toward independence.
