About me:
Welcome to Ms.K’s Reading Room

I have worked as a special educator for over 10 years and as a reading specialist for another 10 years. Throughout my career, I have taught students from K–12 with needs ranging from moderate to severe, including children with significant reading difficulties and English Language Learners (ELL).

I hold a Master’s degree in Special Education (K–12) and dual licensure as a Severe Special Needs Teacher (K–12) and a Reading Specialist (K–12).

In my experience, even when commercial teaching materials are high quality, they rarely provide enough worksheets or activities at a consistent level of difficulty; the complexity often increases too quickly. My students, especially those on the Autism Spectrum, require significantly more repetition to achieve mastery. They need exposure to activities that are varied yet similar enough that they can recognize patterns and apply their knowledge across different contexts.

This gap in available resources is why I decided to create my own Boom Cards. While these decks might be too easy or repetitive for typically developing children, they aren't the target audience. My decks are designed specifically for students who need scaffolded, repetitious practice targeting similar skills. By keeping the concept the same but varying the presentation, I ensure students aren't just memorizing answers, but are truly mastering the skills.
