Sound Advice for Kids

About me: Hi! My name is Merrie McLean Smithson. I'm a retired SLP who spent 30 years working in the Salt Lake City School District with preschool students, primarily using a push-in speech therapy model. I continue to maintain my ASHA membership and CCCs. During my career, I worked in a number of preschool classrooms, including functional life-skills, self-contained, and inclusive learning environments. I thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with each classroom teacher and her staff. I was lucky to be a member of the Utah Assistive Technology Team (UATT) for 15 years, representing the Salt Lake City School District. I enjoyed being the Team Leader and presenting at UATT conferences for several years. I volunteered as a Clinical Instructor for the University of Utah's Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic throughout my career. I supervised over 30 graduate students in the public school setting and thoroughly enjoyed teaching and supporting them as they completed their graduate program. My interest in integrating interactive software began as early as the 1990s. Now that I'm retired, I'm focusing on creating online digital activities for itinerant and push-in speech therapists. I LOVE BoomCards because the activities are interactive, engaging, and fun!
