Description: Social skills lessons often focus on helping students understand the speech filter—the difference between what should be said aloud and what should remain a thought. For students with Autism or Social Communication Disorder, Identifying feelings and emotions for others can be a challenge, making it difficult to know what is appropriate to say in different situations. This deck improves Conversation skills for teens by encouraging reflection before speaking. These Social Skills activities for teens help develop awareness and control. Designed to support Social problem solving, this resource builds understanding of the Social Filter and when to use it. Your students will receive 26 cards which consist of 3 instructional cards and 23 multiple choice cards. I present 23 separate situations that require the student to determine the appropriateness of a comment. I would suggest running the deck as a group lesson and then assigning for HW to assess the skill. Some basic interference skills are required. Please see the Printie section of my store for the FREE worksheet with the same title. ( Think it or Say it PRINTIE ) The cards work well with older students (Grades 6- 10) or best when used with students who have mild-moderate cognitive delays yet good language skills.
