Description: Verbs can be written in the active voice or the passive voice. The active voice is more direct because the subject performs the action of the verb. The passive voice occurs when the subject is acted upon by the verb. Using the passive voice lengthens the sentence and makes the action less direct. Both voices have a purpose. When used correctly and in moderation, the passive voice is perfectly acceptable, but the active voice is most often preferred.
