Description: This is a 21-card deck that helps students learn the short vowel sounds by contrasting short a vs short o. I developed this activity because so many of my students learn the short a vowel sound but then struggle to learn the other short vowel sounds. This deck (plus decks for the other vowel sounds - all can be purchased as a bundle) helps students learn the other vowel sounds by contrasting it with the one they already know. There are three activities in the deck: Sorting words by short a vs short o sound; spelling minimal pair words (cat vs cot); and spelling single CVC short a vs short o words.
