Description: Smart Mouth is a fast-paced activity where auditory associations, critical thinking, vocabulary, and language can explode while targeting: naming skills categorization descriptive language expressive language Game Play Kids love to play games, especially ones that allow them to blurt out replies! The goal is for the child to listen to the prompt read aloud from the game card and then blurt out three associated or related words. The Smart Mouth boom deck is an excellent grab-and-go no-prep resource. The numbers 1,2,3 on the cards correspond with the adult tapping each finger while the child names the three words. Once the three related words are named then provide an opportunity for the child to use these words expressively. This can stretch auditory memory, descriptive language and spoken language skills. Example: “At the pet store my favorite animals are the kittens, ferrets and hamsters.” The adult also take turns to model the type of vocabulary and descriptions we want the child to use on their turn. It gives the child opportunities to hear new words in action. By overhearing they will soon learn to use new words in the game play. ★★★This is a serve and return conversational game between the adult and the listener. It is not designed to be played by the student alone. There is no audio component.
