Need a different approach for older students/clients who have acquired consonantal /r/ at the beginning of the syllable, but who continue to struggle with syllable final/vocalic /r/? Look no further. I developed these word pairs while working with a high school student who presented with a lovely, correctly produced consonantal /r/ at the beginning of syllables, but who just couldn't quite get the placement for vocalic /r/ at the end of syllable. So, I decided to try something different. In an effort to work smarter, not harder for both of us, I used what the student *could do* to help them bridge the gap with vocalic /r/. And, it worked. Beautifully. There are 20 word pairs which are set to randomize. I've used these word pairs with literate students as young as 4th grade. These word pairs are Phase 1 of a 2-phase program.
