Description: The ability to manipulate syllables is an essential pre-reading skill. Students must first learn to divide words into syllables (segmentation syllabique) to eventually be able to decode big words when they start to read. This interactive resource is not only perfect for little ones in the beginning stages of phonological awareness, but it will allow them to master the skill. NOTE: Knowing how many syllables there are in a word isn't what matters - it is properly dividing the word that does. To complete this activity, students will have to pronounce the word and touch a circle (from left to right) for every syllable they say. They will then touch the small heart beside the circle they last touched to verify their answer. This resource can be used for small group instruction/assessment, literacy center or homework! This deck included the same words as the following deck: French Boom Cards™ Syllable Counting version 2. In this, students aren't required to count the syllables; they simply divide the word. In the 'version 2', students have to count the syllables to be able to answer.
