Description: Using a speech filter in conversation means not only knowing what you can’t say but also knowing what you can say. One area that is often overlooked is the relationship that a student has with another individual. Are they friends, close friends, acquaintances, or just classmates? Knowing that relationship dictates what a student should or shouldn’t say or ask to be socially appropriate. This deck contains 48 multiple choice prompts that allow a student to stop and think about his/her relationship with a peer BEFORE deciding what is or isn’t appropriate to say or ask. A group lesson takes about an hour but if issuing this deck as an individual HW assignment it should take 20-30 minutes. When I use this lesson with my Social Skills classroom it easily fills one hour with discussion in between each card.
