Description: Use this deck to target basic vocab, who and what questions, pronouns, and early speech sounds with a fun, Valentine's Day theme.   Read the story and have students match the item that the child is giving to his/her friend for Valentine's Day. This can be used to target basic Valentine's day vocabulary/first words. Early speech sounds can be targeted via the characters' names (which were chosen to be easy to say) as well as with the target objects. Words like bow, pop, cookie, candy, and cake were chosen because they contain early developing sounds and syllable shapes. You can ask wh- questions like "Who gave the flowers?" or "What did Pete give to Mimi?" etc.  You can also target pronouns by having the child state "He gave the flowers to her" or something similar after completing each page.
