Description: This self-regulation deck teaches early learners that feelings can get too big and cause problems for them. It then teaches them how to “shrink them” using strategies to help regain control over their actions. Prerequisites: adjectives (growing, shrinking, etc.), and some self-recognition of basic feelings (happy, sad, angry, scared). Note: Lisneyland has other self-regulation/emotional regulation decks for older learners, so please read the descriptions to find the right deck for your learner’s level. This deck is designed to do several things for your learner, and I truly hope you are able to get many useful lessons from it. The lesson is broken down into 4 different parts. This allows you to take the lesson little bits at a time, and focus on comprehension of the concepts within that section if needed. Some learners will breeze through the entire lesson and gobble it up, while other learners might need it broken down. Part 5 includes knowledge checks. Most of these can be done by your learner independently. The last few slides in the section are discussion questions meant to be discussed with at least 1 additional person. Part 6 includes practice activities to be done with an adult, in order to monitor reactions to the activities and help decide if the activity should be added to their calm down toolbox. Part 7 includes a variety of handy printable visual supports.
