Description: These 21 cards help students learn vocabulary words about St. Patrick’s Day. Students read a definition and then click on or type the word that matches the definition. The first card in the deck states the instructions and also includes a word bank with all 20 words. Students read the text and they can also click on the audio symbol to hear the directions and words in the word bank, plus all the definitions, read aloud. The cards have 4 types of multiple choice and fill in the blank responses, with 5 cards in each set: a) Cards 2 - 6: Multiple choice with 4 possible answers b) Cards 7 - 11: Multiple choice with 2 possible answers c) Cards 12 - 16: Fill in the blank with the correct word; these cards provide a picture as a clue d) Cards 17 - 21: Multiple choice with 3 possible answers This resource is aimed at English Language Learners with an intermediate level of language proficiency and higher. Other students may also find it helpful. You may want to tell your students that the word “March” has 2 meanings—the other definition means to walk purposefully from one place to another. Teaching ELLs and other students multiple meaning words helps them develop their vocabulary. FYI: The clipart in the corners of the cards are, in order: A leprechaun, a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, a Celtic knot, and an imagined image of Saint Patrick. Also, "beer" is one of the vocab words in this deck; you can skip that card if you think it's not appropriate to use with your students.
