Description: Our adult ESL students must first be able to discriminate specific sounds that they hear before they can produce them. This deck gives them that practice with the short i vs. long e sounds. /ɪ/ vs /i/ Students will hear a word and then select the word they heard from a given pair of minimal pairs. Please note that I have this same deck available in an easier version (#1) for students who are not yet reading. They hear the same words in that deck but select either /ɪ/ or /i/. I did not include multi-syllable words out of concern that students might be confused by WHICH vowel sound they should focus on. It is otherwise identical to this deck. I made this deck with adult students in mind, so it is without clipart or decorative backgrounds. As such, this deck will not appeal to children. It is meant for high school age and older. I based this deck on a worksheet activity from my Short i vs. Long E Pronunciation resource (pdf) available in my TpT store.
