Description: This is a 27-card Scavenger Hunt that can be used to as a review or to teach students about individuals who participated in the California Gold Rush. In this hunt, students will learn about the famous bandit Black Bart, what Levi Strauss did during the Gold Rush that helped him start his denim empire, how the Gold Rush helped Mark Twain become a famous writer, and more. To complete the hunt, students are presented with 13 multiple-choice questions. Then they read the information that will help them answer the questions. If they choose the correct answer, they are directed to the next question. If their answer is incorrect, they can reread the text to find the correct answer. They receive instant feedback on whether or not they chose the correct answer. The final card in the deck challenges students to write 3 interesting things they learned about the people of the Gold Rush. The hunt can be used to enhance a study of western expansion or the California Gold Rush, as practice for reading informational text and is an easy lesson for a sub.
