Description: Why focus on teaching kids to spell words that can be sounded out? This deck will help them master those truly tricky words! Also known as "red"words because they don't follow the rules, parts of these words can't be sounded out & must be memorized or learned by heart. It takes lots of practice with a variety of activities to master them. This deck presents 10 of the most common non-phonetic words drawn from the Fry Sight Word & Orton-Gillingham Red Word lists: are, come, do, from, have, of, one, to, was, you (See my store for List 2!) Only 10 are presented because kids will practice them 4 different ways: 1) COPY: See a picture, hear & see the word, then type it 3 times. 2) BUILD: Drag letters into boxes to spell the word. The "red" part that must be memorized goes in the heart. 3) SPELL: See the picture, hear the word & type it in the box. 4) USE IT IN A SENTENCE: This last activity is the most difficult. Kids see a picture, hear the word and must write a sentence of their own that uses the word. PLEASE NOTE: This section requires teacher grading. If you prefer, you can either have students skip these cards or hide them in the deck. To hide cards, go to the Library tab & find the deck that contains the cards you want to hide. Click the Action menu then "Hide Cards". This opens a preview, and you click "hide" when the card you want hidden appears. Please note you can't hide cards with Fast Pin.
