Description: Identifying the beginning sounds in words is an essential phonemic awareness skill. It is about hearing the individual phonemes words. This set of task cards also includes letter identification (phonics). Before students can identify all of the phonemes in words, they need to start with identifying the beginning phoneme, or sound. This deck starts with a mini-lesson on identifying beginning sounds in words. This will help those students that need pre-teaching or reteaching of this skill. Then there is a directions slide with audio. The word on each slide is presented visually with a picture, and auditorily with the teacher saying the name for each picture.
