Description: Matrix's are an optimal closed set structured listening task for children who have recently received a cochlear implant or who are learning to listen or extend auditory memory. On each card the child presses the purple sound button in the left corner to hear the sentence or short story. The child finds the word from the column on the left and the row on the top and clicks the box that connects both key words (Ex: Peter, basketball). This set is divided into three levels to increase complexity of listening. Each level includes 10 cards. Level 1 is a beginning listening task as the key words are in the beginning and end of the sentence. The child learns this is where they will be and can learn to attend to these parts of the sentence to pick out the words. Level 2 is slightly more difficult as the child now has to identify the key the words embedded in the sentence. Level 3 is the most complex because it requires the child to listen to a short story and identify the key words embedded in the story.
