Description: This making formal and informal language task card deck includes anchor charts and task cards. It helps students practice identifying whether statements are informal or formal language based on the phrases used in the statement. Your students will be required to identify the difference between informal and formal language, make inferences about the context or setting of a situation, and type key words or context clues that help them determine whether statements are written in formal or informal language. This formal and informal language deck includes: 41 task cards (5 formal and informal language instructional pages and examples and 36 formal and informal language task cards). • Task cards 1-5 are instructional pages with a description of informal and formal language as well as examples of phrases used in both types of languages. • Task cards 6-17 require your students to identify whether a passage is informal or formal language. • Task cards 18-29 require your students to first identify whether a passage is informal or formal language and then they make an inference about the context or setting of the passage. • Task cards 30-35 require your students to type the word or phrase that helped them know that the passage was written in formal language. • Task cards 36-41 require your students to type the word or phrase that helped them know that the passage was written in informal language.
