Prefixes Increasing students knowledge of prefixes enables them to read multisyllabic, complex words. This deck focused on reading the common prefixes -dis, -pre, and -mid in order to improve students decoding, spelling, vocabulary, and comprehension. For each prefix, the following activities are included: 1) Match the word to the picture 2) Spell the word from a set of choices 3) Spell the word without clues 4) Read the sentences and isolate the prefixes 5) Read the sentence and select the picture that matches CCSS: RF. 2.3d Decode words with common prefixes and suffixes. CCSS: RF.3.3a Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Identify and know the meaning of the most common prefixes and derivational suffixes. CCSS: RF.4.3a Use combined knowledge of all letter-sound correspondences, syllabication patterns, and morphology (e.g., roots and affixes) to read accurately unfamiliar multisyllabic words in context and out of context.
