Description: Segmentation is an important phonemic awareness skill that students practice as they are beginning to decode words to read. Here are 30 task cards focused on sharpening this skill: 15 Questions - students will name the word, stretch the word to listen to the sounds, and identify how many sounds they hear (2, 3, or 4). 15 Questions - students will find the word that has 2, 3, or 4 sounds (phonemes) Adding segmentation practice (sounding out phonemes) had a positive impact on students in my reading intervention groups. These digital task cards would be the perfect addition to Guided Reading literacy centers or use for progress monitoring.
