Description: This deck of 30 cards is intended to be used for direct instruction of phonemic awareness either in person or remotely. Large colorful pictures will increase student interest while three-dimensional drag and drop dots are used to visually demonstrate the process of segmenting words into individual phonemes. Words included are: bar, tea, paw, toe, bow, hay, see, dew, car, hoe, joe, saw, pay, egg, eat Phonemic awareness, or the ability to manipulate individual sounds or phonemes within words, is a critical skill for children to learn prior to decoding and spelling. Being able to successfully identify, substitute, and delete phonemes in words is a predictor of future reading success. Because phonemic awareness involves the sounds or phonemes in words, it does not include or require knowledge of alphabetic characters.
