Subjects: speech,articulation,phonology

Grades: 13,1,2,3

Description: This card deck targets includes 3 different skills (3 pages) per /l/ word - phonemic awareness, Auditory discrimination and Articulation.  This version differs from the version for older students in that there is only 1 task per page, there are more visuals, the visuals are larger and instructions are included on each page. Once a student understands each task, it may be the case that either version would be appropriate for your student. The three skills include: 1). Locate:  Students will identify where in a word the target sound is positioned - beginning, middle or end;  2) Discriminate:  Students will listen to 5 different recordings of the word being produced, either correctly or incorrectly.  Errors attempt to use typical substitutions or distortions.  Upon listening to the recording, a student should judge the production and then place a 'thumbs up' for correct productions and a 'thumbs down' for incorrect productions; and 3)  Articulate:  Students should practice saying the word with the target sound correctly produced 10 times.  Minimal information is provided regarding self-monitoring, so therapists may want to provide additional information about this aspect of practice.   This deck is appropriate for both direct therapy as well as for independent practice (once process is learned).
