Description: This deck leads has three parts: 1. First students sort cards into two categories: Open Versus Closed Syllables. 2. Next, they sort the SAME cards into two different categories: Foods Versus Objects. 3. Finally, they sort the same words on a 2x2 matrix while considering all 4 categories at once. Cognitive flexibility requires a person to switch between two different tasks or to think about more than one concept at the same time. By sorting words that belong to two different categories simultaneously, students can work on cognitive flexibility.
