This wordless life skills safety story helps students recognize a “Caution: Slippery” safety sign while exploring safety awareness and cause-and-effect. This resource contains 10 scenarios (30 pages total) designed to support discussion about warning signs and safe decision making. In each scenario, a parent and child walking together encounter a “Caution: Slippery” sign along their path. On the first page, they notice the sign. On the second page, they are still walking and a slippery substance is beginning to flow onto the path. On the third page, the path is covered and they slip and fall onto their bottoms. Because the book is wordless, the instructor and student read the story together by describing what they see, making predictions, and discussing what might happen next. The book ends with a final page showing that they make it safely to the park. This resource can support discussion about: Safety awareness Warning signs Cause-and-effect Predicting outcomes It can also be used with AAC devices to target words such as “stop,” “go,” and “careful."
