Description: Students first identify shapes in the tangram puzzle, then they need to solve tangram puzzles by composing shapes to make new images of various animals and objects. Students have plenty of time to explore and try different arrangements of the same shapes to realize that shapes can be composed of other shapes. This boom deck is aligned to CCSS 1.G.A.2, but also works well with older students because of the complexity of the puzzles. 1.G.A.2: Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
