Description: Practice adding details and descriptions to simple sentences to make the sentences more engaging and interesting to the reader. Students will add more details step by step using the five "wh" questions who/ what, what are they doing, when, where, and why. The simple sentence is the first step, this sentence is the starting point and students will build their sentence from this sentence. The students will then go down to the next section to add a detail(s) of "doing what" to the simple sentence. The student then goes to the step and adds a "when" detail to the sentence. Students continue until the final step which adds "why" to the sentence. The result is a better sentence that answers the five wh questions. An anchor chart which gives the "wh" questions and an example sentence step by step build are provided. Twelve simple sentences with picture supports complete the deck.
