Description: BOOM CARDS: This product contains over 30 Boom Cards scenarios depicting expected and unexpected behaviors. Students read each scenario and mark whether the behavior described would be EXPECTED or UNEXPECTED under normal situations. Why teach expected and unexpected behaviors? EXPECTED BEHAVIOR is defined as a behavior or action that we would be expected to see under normal circumstances. UNEXPECTED BEHAVIOR is defined as a behavior or action that is NOT what would be expected under normal circumstances. Behaviors are actions we can see. Expressing our emotions through smiling, laughing, crying, pouting, or making a mean face are examples of behavior. We can also show behaviors by saying kind words, yelling, sitting quietly, or acting in a helpful way – these are all examples of what our behaviors look like to other people. Anything that we can see or observe another person doing is a behavior. Sometimes our behaviors or those of others do not match what we might expect. This is when a behavior is unexpected and may be confusing. It also may surprise us or even disappoint us. Understanding what our actions mean to others is helpful in determining appropriate social skills and social situations.
