Words include double consonants (segmented as a single sound, not split across syllables) as well as consonant digraphs ck, ch, sh, th, wh. Sound included to assist with word recognition. The concept of "open" or "closed" syllables is not addressed. Words are split into syllables according to "natural" syllable breaks resulting from word stress.
