Description: Teach students to identify lonely vs. not lonely by reading body language and non-verbal communication cues. Perfect for AAC users and building emotional awareness. Students will decide if a person looks lonely or if they are just alone, in which case we’ll say “not lonely.” For example, someone riding a motorcycle alone might simply enjoy the moment—they’re probably just alone, not lonely. In that case, we model the phrase “not lonely” to keep the focus on the word lonely while helping students understand the difference. This activity supports emotional understanding, language development, and empathy. It also teaches that we can’t always know how someone feels just by looking—so it’s always okay to ask. Designed for *TD Snap, *Proloquo, *TouchChat, *LAMP, core boards, and verbal expression. Supports single-word responses, 2- and 3-word utterances, sentence-building, and discussing emotions. How to Use: -Respond using single words (“Lonely.” “Not lonely.”), or adapt for yes/no responses. -Build 2- & 3-word utterances (“He is lonely.” “She not lonely.” ) -Depending on level, encourage students to describe what they see and explain why someone may or may not feel lonely.
