Description: Phonological awareness has been well established as a reliable predictor in the ability to successfully learn to read. Segmentation is an essential component of phonological awareness for both reading and spelling. In order to read and write words the must be broken down into sounds and the corresponding letters they represent. Segmentation contributes to an understanding of how sounds work together within words, the learning of spelling patterns and an awareness or familiarity of words in general. Which Sound Did you Hear Last? is designed to increase the ability to identify the final sounds in words and the letters that represent those sounds. Students name the picture then choose the letter they think makes the sound for the final position.
