Description: THANKSGIVING IDIOMS! Learning figurative language can really make you feel like a FISH OUT OF WATER! Idioms can be especially troublesome because these expressions vary from place to place and cannot be taken literally. Teaching students to examine these phrases in context can help them determine the meanings independently while reading or having conversations. This deck of 20 cards provides great practice for determining the meaning of idioms by utilizing context clues. Students are asked to read a sentence, determine the meaning of the underlined idiom, and choose the correct response. What’s included? * One title card *One instructional card *20 self-checking digital task cards which ask students to choose the correct idiom meaning from three given choices. CCSS standards addressed: --L.4.4.a Use context (e.g., definitions, examples, or restatements in text) as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase. --L.4.5.b Recognize and explain the meaning of common idioms, adages, and proverbs. --L.5.4.a Use context (e.g., cause/effect relationships and comparisons in text) as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase. --L.5.5.b Recognize and explain the meaning of common idioms, adages, and proverbs. --L.6.5 Demonstrate understanding of figurative language, word relationships, and nuances in word meanings. *If you and your students enjoy this festive Thanksgiving deck, please check out my other IDIOM and figurative language resources in my Boom store!
